#METOO #MINDSET
Amidst the #metoo
movement of Bollywood, we all must have given a thought about it. Have we or
not? Well let’s give it now, if we haven’t. We are hearing cases from all sections
of society being sexually assaulted some or the other time in their life.
Majority being women around us.
Have we ever
wondered the reason that the country were the women are worshiped have the
highest no of assaults registered against them? And yes we not counting the ones that go un-reported.
Well I have
and I think it’s not education or lack of law or its enforcement. As we have many
cases were we can debate that these are not the real reasons.
So what does
it boil down to? To me its #MINDSET. So is mind set related to education. No, certainly
not. Then what? Mindset is not something we can change or incorporate into
someone in a day. Its gradually built when we grow in life, seeing the things
around us or that affect us, in a right or wrong way.
Have we ever
thought that we all teach our kids in home or at school about right and wrongs
of a respectable society, that stealing, lying etc. are wrong, but what about
teaching them that grabbing some one of their dignity is wrong?
Some people
will debate that only educated people talk to their kids about the same. And
thus it’s those who are un-educated will resort to such crimes. Well I would
say, no they don’t. Majority of them don’t.
Some days
back I heard from a friend that the girls of her class are being harassed on WhatsApp
video calls and the number is an international number which cannot be traced as
the person is using VPN or something to hide its identity. So the person here is
an educated one and is well versed with technology and is using the same to
please his what “Ego”? Or is doing for “Fun”? Tell me what is the reason? Why
is he doing so? And he is certainly someone among the class because he knows
the numbers of all girls in class. Some may say he is mentally sick.
Well I would
like to ask his parents or his teachers who have taught him all along his
childhood, did they ever speak about “DIGNITY” to him. Well the answer is
certainly a big NO. No, we as parents, teachers, brothers, sisters or society never
teach our child about dignity. We may teach them about their dignity and how to
be safe nowadays. But do we teach them about the respect for others.
Its high
time that we as a society teach and preach children right from beginning about it.
That it’s wrong to rob someone of their inner peace and mental/physical harassment
is a crime too.
We may
debate about n number of ways for doing so. Or the most appropriate way to do
so, but to me, I just think doing something is important.
